About Arts Rolla
In 1985 a group of visionaries recognized that our region had some exceptional people with extraordinary talent. This group of visionaries decided to form a group called the South Central Missouri Arts Council.
The founding members of the organization were: the late David Oakley, Nick Knight, Dan Woodward, the late Pat Lindgren, the late Mae Witt, Jeff Stoll, the late Jay Turley, John Murphy and the late Diane Sanborn Knight, Founding President. This group was the catalyst for bringing the art community together. Throughout the years the organization has evolved and the name has been changed to Arts Rolla. However, the solid foundation this group built has been a critical part of the success we enjoy today in Arts Rolla. Because of their leadership, the art in our region is vibrant and growing.
Presidents for Arts Rolla, in order, from1985 to present are: Diane Sanborn Knight, Rick Westhues, Barbara Russell, Jean Senne. Ken Miller. Mary Bird, Jeff Sandquist, Susan Bowles, Janet McKean, Ellen McLaughlin, Louise Morgan, Carol Bennett, Linda Nystrom, and John Parfet. Loretta Wallis currently serves as president.
The mission of Arts Rolla is to promote and sponsor artists, arts activities, arts education and public appreciation for visual arts, performing arts, and literary arts throughout south-central Missouri. Through community feedback and support, new and creative opportunities are discovered to facilitate sharing the arts throughout our region.
Arts Rolla enriches the quality of life in our region by its sponsorship of the following annual or bi-annual events: a Juried Photo Show, a Juried Art Show, an Open Art Show, a Writing Competition, PoetSpeak, and music concerts. Throughout the year, as opportunities arise, Arts Rolla co-sponsors, with other organizations, a variety of other cultural events.
